Windows 2008 R2 Virtual Computer.

Post by Ankawi »

I currently host a rust server on a windows 2008 R2 virtual computer. What happens is that the server sometimes randomly laggs out for about 3-5 minutes usually. This has happened about twice now. I contacted NFO support and they couldn't figure out what the problem was and encouraged me to post on the forums.

What are the specs of the VDS?

How many players on the Rust server when it lags?

What is your VDS resource usage like when it lags?

Are you running any other services on the VDS, like a web server, MySQL server, etc?

Is Rust installed on a SSD partition?

Four core

Four full, dedicated HT CPU cores (Nehalem or better)
4096 MB of RAM
400 GB of RAID-protected storage
16000 GB of bandwidth transfer

with 3072 MB memory.

First time it lagged, there were about 85+ people online.
2nd time was night time with about 40+ people.
Both in the same day.

I do not know the VDS resource usage when it lags because I didn't check it, (didn't know that could be the cause).
CPU usage for the process RustDedicated is usually between 30-45, current memory usage is 2,226,87...
Not running anything on the VDS except the server, firedaemonpro, and the task mananger.

Rust is only installed on my personal computer, not the virtual computer.

With those player counts you are probably running into an issue using an entire CPU core. What CPU is your VDS on?

CPU usage for the VDM is currently between 30%-45%, for the RustDedicated process itself, it's like 33-40

That is over a core, so like I said you are probably running into an issue with single threaded CPU performance. What CPU is your VDS on?

Yeah thats about the best you can get for a VDS. You may need to rent a server in the standard rental system, or move up to a full dedi. The E3-1270 for $140/m is a good choice, and roughly 40% faster per core than the VDS.
