What forums(CMS) everyone is using?

Post by newdayonline »

Hello.
I'm looking for a forum CMS that is free and compatible with CS:S donation.
Could anyone recommend any CMS to for this purpose?

Wordpress is probably one of the more popular ones, and one I'd personally recommend.
@Kraze^NFo> Juski has a very valid point
@Juski> Got my new signature, thanks!
@Kraze^NFo> Out of context!
@Juski> Doesn't matter!
@Juski> You said I had a valid point! You can't take it back now! It's out there!

I have spent a lot of money trying forums out.
I have VB for $250 its ok but i didn't like it to much.
I have tried IBP that was $250 didn't like that one to much
I have Xenforo which is 150 just switched to it. So far i like it.

Thanks all for replying.
I just found this forum and it's free: https://mybb.com/

But I don't know if it's any good.
I'm just looking for something that so Steam donators can get their perks automatically would be nice.

Mybb is as good as any forum can get. I have been using it for past 5 years now, but it is a forum software and not a complete CMS. Although, I doubt that Xenforo and IPB are CMS either.

In case you really need a CMS, then I would recommend looking into Concrete5 or Joomla.

Well I meant to say forum softwares too. I thought they are the same thing.
Anyways, so for Steam donation is there a code from steam that players can login within the forum using their steam account?

I'm not sure what exactly you talking about, if you mean a donation interface then that would have to be independent from forum software. It can be integrated, but it would be a manual integration. Maybe provide a link to what donation module you want to use?

I think I found one. It's called MAUL. It is used to identify and manage players
Youtube reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meLl5xBj3j8

But in the video it asks for unique ID, but which in my HLStatsX doesn't have.

So I'm wondering if inserting Steam ID will be the same?

Thanks guys

Looks like they created MAUL.

Just use any forum such as xenforo/mybb/vb/ipb and wordpress for your landing page.

They are using GameMe in that video and not HLStatsX. I would recommend you to install the module, instead of assuming stuff that may not be necessary.

I didn't assume anything. That's why I asked IF it would work with HLStatsX by putting SteamID there.

There are quite a few options available, one thing to know is that a CMS doesn't necessarily include a forum, though many do have the ability to have one. I assume when you say CMS that you want something that has a front-page that shows announcements, forum posts, cool things and stuff like that, with a forum section.
(Content Management System =/= Forum Software)

The simplest way I could think of doing that for free, would be to use WordPress front with a bbPress forum. Both are free and largely supported, tie into each other out-of-box, and have a ton of themes with easily changeable options if you don't know how to code. As for the donation module, to copy what It'sRandinator said, you can just provide a link to a donation module. The large plus side of an outside module is that you don't need to worry about compromising your users data, and don't need to pay for an SSL key. What many people use is a link to paypal, so any transaction is on PayPal's secured website.

What do you like more about Xenforo? I have IPB, which I changed to from phpBB and while the admin interface is nice and there are generally more features than phpBB, the security track record, documentation, and developers in general seem kinda... eh?
