How are updates handled?

Post by MisterNobody »

Hi, I have hosted servers with NFO before and there is often an issue with support staff being unaware that game updates are available. (This seems to be very common with Rust servers. The game is updated every week on Thursdays and NFO staff is often completely unaware of this.)

Since Conan Exiles is very new, updates are rolling out very quickly - sometimes with multiple updates per day. It is CRITICAL that a game server host stay on top of these updates and keep their servers up to date since players will not be able to connect to an outdated server version.

Will players be able to update their own servers?

When updates are made available from the developer, how long will it take NFO to push these updates to server rented from them?

Does NFO plan on adding any game specific management features for Conan Exiles. For example, for Rust servers, you are able to do things like changingthe server name fro mthe NFO web pages. This feature is not currently available on a Conan Exiles server rented from NFO. Other providers like PingPerfect allow changing many of the game's parameters through a web interface. What features does NFO plan on adding to web based management for Conan Exiles?

We have an automated system that runs every few minutes and checks for any Conan Exiles update, then pushes them all out. Customers do not need to take any manual action. CE updates have mostly been small so far, so it does not take long for them to download.

This game is easy to configure through files, but we plan to implement an "Easy setup" page to make it easier, as we have with so many other games, including the one closest to CE in terms of the server-side configuration (Ark).

Our staff is definitely aware of Rust updates happening every Thursday, and we are careful with them. With that game, our "optional" servers get the updates automatically and immediately, while the regular servers get them after we have verified that an update is required. Rust is unusual in that it has historically had many updates that are not required, and there's no way that we can tell which ones are required in an automated way; that is why we can't just force them out. If you can't tolerate a short delay while the Rust developers decide whether to force clients to only be able to connect to a new server release, or for us to check for that required update status, you should switch to using the "optional" track.
