General questions about server hardware.

Post by Dovahnaut »

I don't currently rent any servers, but I'm considering it for the near future.
Before that though, I wanted to ask some things.

Using the 50 players / 3072 MB configuration as an example:

1. Are the servers always online, 24/7, or do they turn off after a period of time and need to be restarted?
If location affects this, use Frankfurt as an example.

2. What is the true limit to storage space? I saw another forum post mention it had a soft cap of 8 GB, what's the hard cap? And do I get charged an extra fee if I go over the soft cap?

3. Is the server pre-configured in any way, or is it fully stock?

4. Are there any limits on what kind of mods / plugins / etc can be done through the FTP, or is it truly full access?

Thanks all for your time.

Thanks for your interest, we'd be happy to have you!

1. The servers are intended to be online 24/7 and we even have automated systems to help detect if they are unintentionally offline/crashed and will attempt to restart them after a period of time. You can intentionally shut them down, if you wish.

2. Our Terms of Service now allows up to 20GB of disk space as a soft cap. There is no hard cap or a fee for going over this limit, but it can cause some problems with our systems such as server relocation failing and automated backups failing. We may contact you if it starts to cause problems with the host machine, but in some urgent situations we may need to delete some files immediately and then contact you. We try to be smart about it and avoid it if we can, but we recommend staying below the 20GB limit to avoid any risk of problems.

3. The servers come fully stock, but there are quite a few options you can adjust directly from the control panel such as version changes or Metaspace adjustments. There are also installer tools for a couple of popular things, such as Paper.

4. The FTP is pretty much full access and you can even use alternative server jars if you wish. There are some limits on what is allowed, though, so I highly recommend checking through our Terms of Service located here:

If you ever run into any questions though or need help with anything, please let us know and we'll be happy to help. :)
