Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
Sorry for triple post it would not let me edit. (timelimit to edit?) Well I tried every domain name that I ahd tied with my database and none work. I added http:// one time and I got a different error. It was a 2005 error instead of a 2003. 2005 said unknown mysql database, check your settings. A 2003 states that it can not connect to 'ip address' but it does not say unknown for it. This is really unbelievable, and I am sorry to drag you guys through the mud with me. I really do appreciate all of the help and I am confident we are going to figure out what the heck is going on. Too bad I paid for my webserver provider for 2 years in advance
Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
Are you using the % wildcard in the "Remote MySQL" section of cpanel? What do you have listed there? Have you tried the % wildcard alone?(should allow all connections)

Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
this is what I have in remote mysql for my VDS
74.91.122.133 and 74.91.122.%
i do not know how to allow all incoming connections. It doesnt let me do much more than that right there. Also, no I have no tried to use the % wc by itself but I will go do that now and restart the server.

Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
The wildcard by itself should allow anything to connect.
EDIT: http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ reports the port 3306(mysql) on your web host to be closed
It reports the port on my web host(hostgator) to be open.
Perhaps this is something?

It also claims that port closed on his game server, yet they don't block ports here, so not sure if it can be trusted.

Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
So you are saying to put just 74.91.122.% ? Wont that just allow a total of 256 ip's access? (the last set of numbers 0-255) or are you saying do it a different way?soja wrote:The wildcard by itself should allow anything to connect.

About the port being closed, How in the heck is my home server gaining access to it on that very same port? Whoa that just blew my mind. But thanks for the find, it does seem rather strange? Time to email bluehost about that and wait 48 hours for a reply, yuck
Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
Well, I just put in my local gameserver ip address on that open port site and I put in port 3306 and it is also saying that it is closed when I am 100% sure it is working with my database and in my database.cfg it is set to that port. Unless somehow it defaults to a different port to communicate on and maybe my NFO server is not doing that?

Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
I had similiar issues trying to run Dayz database on a webhosting external from the gameservers, and had the same head banging experience. And one day out of the blue it started to work. Can leave one pulling their hair out. lol

Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
It checks listening ports(i think), so it won't say the port is open on the game server side.
That's why I didn't post it initially, if your home game server was working idk why it wouldn't work now.
Try the % wildcard alone to see if it works, if it does, you need to narrow it down from there, the % wildcard would allow all IP addresses to potentially connect to it if they have the password and username.

Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
Well I do not know how to use just the % wildcard in remote mysql. If you cold tell me what exactly I should type into the box to allow all ip ranges taht would be awesome. Out of curiosity I went to Remote MYSQl and deleted my home ip address and then put it back in but changed one digit in it and then I restarted my home server and it kicked back the same exact error as my VDS is putting out. @003 error can not connect to mysql database on 'ip address of database' please check your db settings and try again. I just have this gut feeling that my gameserver ip is not the ip address that I need to be putting into the remote mysql page. There has got to be another ip address. After all dont VPS share ip addresses? Sorry if I sound like an idiot but this is what I am stuck on and can not stop thinking about that possibility. I rent my nfoserver through a 3rd party guy and he has no idea what is going on like the rest of us.

Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
So you only have one ip address for your VDS?
Maybe add them all if you have more.
I think they want you to enter %.%.%.% to allow any ip to connect.

Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
I just re-read your initial post, and the log you posted says that Auto Birds failed to connect to the database.
Looking up the plugin, it says you require:
But I don't see that in your database.cfg you posted.
You have tf2stats. Wondering if you have to add the above in addition to what you already have.
Looking up the plugin, it says you require:
Code: Select all
"autobirds"
{
"driver" "mysql"
"host" "webserver IP"
"database" "database name"
"user" "database username"
"pass" "database username password"
//"timeout" "0"
"port" "3306"
}You have tf2stats. Wondering if you have to add the above in addition to what you already have.

Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
Well I am not sure if there is only one ip address or not, I just rent the server. And it will not allow me to input %.%.%.% Well looks like im about ready to give up on this issue for the 3rd time. About once a week or so I dedicate my day off to trying to figure it out. I just can not stand when I cant figure something out but I feel this one is outta my hands. Or so it seems. So much for webstats, source bans with mysql support and a few other plugins that I really wanted to better my servers..=QUACK=.Major.Pain wrote:So you only have one ip address for your VDS?

Re: NFO VDS will not connect to external MYSQL database, Hom
Yea, sorry for the confusion. I removed that plugin today so I could just concentrate on the tf2 stats. I did have all of that info in there. That was just an example of the error I get, it is the same no matter the plugin that requires mysql database.=QUACK=.Major.Pain wrote:I just re-read your initial post, and the log you posted says that Auto Birds failed to connect to the database.

A single % should allow all IPs
You can also add a % for host in phpmyadmin
