Arma 2 Constant Red Chain Desync

Post by The Hound »

Im hosting DayZ Epoch Pantera mod for Arma 2 and we every couple minutes have a red chain appear with extreme amounts of desync on the in game monitor but not much actual impact on the game running. It's confusing for players and makes them think the connection is unstable. I am pretty new to this and would appreciate any help from anyone that has knowledge on the subject.

Is there heavy database/disk activity at that time? It might make sense to run the server from SSD space, if so.

No not really, around 15% cpu usage and under 4% active disk time. This is very low player count to, sometimes only like 3 or 4. Also there are no in game signs of desync (lagging, players dissappearing and appearing) other then the broken red chain symbol that appears to show desync. Its very odd as I have never actually seen it happen before and have been playing for 2 years or so. Also it happens extremely often (at least 2 times every 5 minutes). Since there is no negative effect to gameplay it doesn't bother my current regular players, but anyone new to the server is leaving before they could even give it a chance because of the issues desync is known to cause in dayz. Just curious if anyone else has any tips to resolve this. By the way these are my current settings for the arma server config.

MinBandwidth=800000;
MaxBandwidth=50000000;
MaxMsgSend=384;
MaxSizeGuaranteed=512;
MaxSizeNonguaranteed=256;
MinErrorToSend=0.0099999998;
MinErrorToSendNear=0.029999997;
MaxCustomFileSize=500000;

I added these from another post on here about hosting dayz epoch trying to fix the desync symbol appearing with no luck. Again thanks in advance for any info or help.

Just following up on what john said, I would try running it on ssd space or even better a ram disk.

I run the second most popular arma 2 island life server and we use the top spec dedi from nfo, doing some testing dsync as well as red and amber chain do happen more often when running from the hard drive vs the ssd the server has. I belive it may be down to seek times for getting files off the drive.
