To prevent Windows from closing or terminating applications upon disconnecting from Remote Desktop, you'll need to edit the time limit for disconnected sessions from within Group Policy.
- Click on the "start" button and type "gpedit.msc", then click enter.
- Using the left-hand pane and navigate to "Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits".
- Double click on "Set time limit for disconnected sessions" and select "Enable".
- Under "Options" select "Never" from the drop-down box.
- Click "Apply" then "OK"
