All of our machines have 1Gbps ports which are always heavily underused. All of our locations also have enough capacity to properly support that speed being used. You are able to use the full port speed if you can, but it's unlikely you ever will because the limiting factor is normally always the server you are downloading from.

On a dedicated machine, you have a full 1 Gbps port that is not shared with others. The uplink on the switch always has many Gbps of spare capacity, so you will never have access to less than 1 Gbps.
