What is the setup fee? How do I reduce it?

The setup fee partially represents the cost of shipping your chosen machine to the datacenter. (We cover the cost of having the machine shipped from our hardware vendor to us, assembling the machine, the operating system install, and installation into our cabinet, and do not pass these on to you.)

In some cases, the setup fee also subsidizes a server package, allowing us to bring down the monthly price. This helps customers who plan to keep their server for at least a couple of months by making it less expensive in the long run, and it allows us to help pay some of the up-front costs associated with building the machine.

Since some of the setup fee is for shipping, you can reduce it by switching to a lower-cost shipping option. However, keep in mind that the lower your shipping fee, the longer the server will take to set up.
