yep i got 2 since i posted...
what some cheaters are doing is changing the sounds that are in the game so that quit sounds are much louder so that they are easier to hear from greater distances.
What the HL engine does is it uses the resident files on the PC to display/announce information. So for the "knife_deploy1.wav" is just calls that sound form the client and you hear it. But when a client sends the command to deploy the knife the server understands that command and then sends a command to all of the clients and depending on their location to the player that deployed that knife they hear a different volume of the sound.
If the client skews that sound then they have the potential to hear someone pulling their knife on the other side of the map

lol you should see my setup when nobody is homeAnubis wrote:I just turn my speakers up really loud and I can hear all that too.
Go Altec Lansing 5+1 speaker system with sub and 5.1 dd surround sound....woot!!!

I should post a pic of it someday

anyways Im running a home theater system, 7.2 setup, with receiver controlling my audio. Its used mainly for movies, tv and the works, but I have optical audio out from my audigy to the MD slot on my receiver.
bf1942, cs, anything rocks, and rumbles. One time I tried to go full on the subs and speakers, it ended up dislocating 10 of the pictures on the other side of the wall, glass shattered

my subs are JBL 400 watt subs, both of them, I love them and JBL makes great stuff.

I have two of these subs running on top of my entertainment center, no floor space for them, but its next to the walls, and packs quite the punch.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out how my ping on dL's server is any differen't than a friend's we both are on cable, we both have almost the exact same computer setups, and my config has been tuned. I ping 60-80 he pings like 25 it's so bleh -_- and he only lives 2 hours south of me...so server distance isn't much different.
diff routes, diff ISPs too most likely or not.dL-Templisk wrote:Yeah I'm trying to figure out how my ping on dL's server is any differen't than a friend's we both are on cable, we both have almost the exact same computer setups, and my config has been tuned.
