My in-game ping seems higher than it should be. Why?

Post by Edge100x »

If your ping in-game fluctuates between 0ms and 30ms higher than your ping from the command line, this is normal, and due to the fact that the game has a tickrate of only 33; the game server only sends replies out every 30ms, which can delay when your client receives them.

If it fluctuates more than this, check your server's sv_maxcmdrate setting (it could be configured in your server.cfg or another cfg file); if it is higher than 99, lower it to 99. With a value of 100 or larger, the game has problems calculating the latency correctly.

If both your in-game and out-of-game pings are higher than you expect, please send us a copy of your tracert to the server: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =25&t=1539
