Arma II Combined Operations Server Files
I have googled for them and haven't had any luck.
Where are the server files for download located?
Our guys want to setup an Arma Dayz server, so I am trying to get the basics downloaded and installed first.
Is it available through Steam update tool?

Re: Arma II Combined Operations Server Files
The easiest way to get these is usually to install the Steam client on your server and download the client and then dedicated server (through the tools page) via that.

Re: Arma II Combined Operations Server Files
We ended up getting a dedicated server with another host for $75/month, and another member of ours took up the task of setting everything up. Things are ok so far other than the extreme number of bandits and hackers.
Worst is, they won't allow passwording the game servers.

Re: Arma II Combined Operations Server Files
You won't have the performance/service/reliability of NFO at another host, but I imagine that makes less of a difference with DayZ, since the game itself has so many problems . It's crazy how many bugs and issues it has right now.
Of course, it *is* still in alpha.

Yep - alpha.... lol
It's not bad running.
This is what we got:
Dual Quad L5420
16GB RAM
500GB 7.2k HDD
10000GB bandwidth
Windows or Linux

Re: Arma II Combined Operations Server Files
That explains a big part of why the price is so low, then -- that's very old hardware. We've already pulled everything that old from our network here, since it's not worth the cost of the power it takes to run (it would probably cost us >$75 just in power to run; properly backed-up power is expensive!).
An E3-1270 has cores that are at least twice as fast as the L5420's, and would run a DayZ server much better. With game servers, the performance of each core is critical.

It's the only thing on the server, so it's running ok for now.
It's a bit cheaper than what some hosts are charging for shared Dayz servers right now.

Re: Arma II Combined Operations Server Files
What I mean is that for a single server, the core speed is all that matters. In the case of the machine you're testing with, you'd actually get better performance with a VDS here (and at a lower price), because L5420 cores are so slow.
Yes, prices for DayZ tend to be high.

Re: Arma II Combined Operations Server Files
Part of the issue might be bandwidth limits.
With servers using about 2tb on large servers, depending on the vds, it could become an issue.

I have been observing data usage for DayZ servers and I am not seeing anywhere near 2TB, I am still wondering where they are getting that data..=QUACK=.Major.Pain wrote:Part of the issue might be bandwidth limits.

Re: Arma II Combined Operations Server Files
Out of curiousity, what VDS would you say compares or out performs the dedicated server of:
Intel Xeon L5420@2.50 Dual Quad Processors
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard x64
1000 GB Hard Drive.
10000 GB Bandwidth - 100 mbps
16 GB Ram.
Looking at the order page, it doesn't describe what hardware is used.
Just provides general details, unless I am missing it.

Re: Arma II Combined Operations Server Files
If you are talking just pure CPU power, I would say just about all of our VDS offerings. Since the machine you are on now is so old that just about any newer hardware could outperform it.
You can see some benchmarks here;
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
Just as a comparison here are some of the machines that we use for VDS hosting;
E5-2690
E3-1270

Re: Arma II Combined Operations Server Files
Any VDS here could likely outperform your current server on a per-core basis, since we exclusively use Nehalem+. Nehalem was a huge step up from prior generations.
A larger VDS will be more likely to be put onto a new machine because often the "holes" on older machines are smaller and less frequently open (customers cancel or upgrade from them only occasionally), while the machines we just put in will have more room for customers to fit. We are strict about one VDS core per machine HT core on our nodes.

Re: Arma II Combined Operations Server Files
I run an Arma 2 OA server on the $40 a month unmanaged VDS without issue. I'd suggest using TA2DST to launch your Arma server.
