Server questions...

Post by Variable »

Hey, I've been playing on the .BAD. CSS server (66.150.214.35) and have been really impressed by the quality of service. I have just a couple of questions before I take the plunge and get a server myself, though:

1. Can you give me some more information about what options they have?

2. If I were to refer them when signing up, what do I use? badplayas?

Thanks!

Sorry, one more question:

If a server has the ping accelerator option, why would the admin ever want to run with a tick rate of anything less than 100?

1. They're in Dallas, with our ping accelerator and high priority. You would likely have similar performance even without the high priority option.

2. You'd need to use "bad2"

3. Sometimes clients can be overwhelmed with the amount of data sent by large servers running at high tickrates, or the server FPS may dip a bit more with the extra processing involved (depending on the types and amount of plugins installed). Running at higher than 66 tick also causes problems with the doors on some custom maps, although this is much less common than it used to be. We recommend trying different tickrates and seeing which feels smoothest to you.
