Server Questions?

Post by stunt101 »

Im intrested in renting a server here. I have a few question before i decide to order. This is for CS:Source

1. Are all accelerated or hyper accelerated server 100 tick?
2. Do you rent more then 40 slots?
3. If more then 40 slots, how would accelerated/hyper comes in play?
4. Paypal is the only type of payment allow?
5. Hardware specs os machine?
6. Compensation if its on your end?
7. Will pings stay stable when server runs hard?
8. Will lag be an issue for big server?

I would like an honest answer and thanks for any help. What im trying to get at is, i wanted to rent a server with minium 54 slots, max 64 slots. With a server that big, how would accelerated/hyper accelerated help. What would the tick be, 66 or 100. You can email me if you dont wanna post it here.

You can set that option on the control panel if its accelerated. I wouldn't recommend 100 tickrate for the size of server you are looking for. I would go with 66.

We can look into hosting more than 40 slots if you email us at rentals @ nuclearfallout.net.
stunt101 wrote:3. If more then 40 slots, how would accelerated/hyper comes in play?
We only allow servers of that size to be accelerated, not hyperaccelerated for better performance.
stunt101 wrote:4. Paypal is the only type of payment allow?
Yes, we only use Paypal at this time for automation and security purposes. By using Paypal, we never receive your personal information such as Credit card information, which is more secure for you and us.
stunt101 wrote:5. Hardware specs os machine?
All accelerated servers are hosted on Dual Opteron or Dual Xeon machines (dual cores, 4 processors total). This includes 10k rpm drives and 4 GB ram. We host on Windows due to its performance hosting games, in particular, CS:Source.
stunt101 wrote:6. Compensation if its on your end?
We always compensate if there is a major issue such as hard drive failure. We run backups to preserve data and have quick turn around times in times of issues.

A large player server such as what you are looking for is demanding, especially for CS:Source and even more so, if you decide to run 100 tickrate. We'll do our best to optimize the gameplay, but as Valve and us recommends, I would use 66 tickrate. We'll look into options for hosting your gameserver with quality.

As I explained in the previous question, there are some pending issues with the Source engine and its limits. There will be a need for optimization in its configuration such as tickrate, its rates and plugins/mods.

Yes, accelerated and hyperaccelerated servers can have the tickrate adjusted through the Server control page of our control panel, up to a maximum of 100.
2. Do you rent more then 40 slots?
We've never been asked for this, but we may be able to accomodate the request -- you'd have to email us about it. Our order form is only designed for up to 40 slots because the performance of the game seriously degrades after that, and the default maps only support up to 40 players.
3. If more then 40 slots, how would accelerated/hyper comes in play?
A server over 40 slots would need to be accelerated. We could not accomodate a hyperaccelerated server of over 40 slots due to performance reasons.

A server over 40 slots might not be able to run at 100 tick without experiencing FPS fluctuations due to the higher CPU usage that would entail (even on the fastest machines available, 64 player servers could top out a CPU core). You might have to experiment with different tick levels.
4. Paypal is the only type of payment allow?
Yes.
5. Hardware specs os machine?
Most machines are very similar to the maximum specs we list on the main page at: http://rentals.nuclearfallout.net/rent.php?content=main
6. Compensation if its on your end?
We provide 2 day's credit for every day of downtime, but in practice, you will not experience anything near that because of the redundancy and stability of our systems, along with the quality of bandwidth that we purchase.
7. Will pings stay stable when server runs hard?
As stable as we can make them. We underload all our boxes and have plenty of bandwidth available, and we'll work with you on any performance concerns that you may have.
8. Will lag be an issue for big server?
We haven't had any problems with 40-player servers in the past. For a larger server, we would make sure it's put on the fastest available box and we would manually monitor the statistics to make sure that lag is avoided. (Our automatic systems also monitor many statistics, including memory and CPU usage, and load balance as necessary, but sometimes manual monitoring is more effective.)

Nick and I worked on replies at the same time there, it looks like. There's some information overlap, but I'll leave both posts.
