MySQL support ?

This is used for general discussion that is not necessarily server-related.

MySQL support ?

Post by StRyDeR »

Yesterday I went to the compitition....What a mistake!

So here I am today to ask a few questions.
I want to run a HL TFC server that requires a MySQL database for 2 plugins and the admins. If I setup the database and the sql.cfg in HL TFC will I get support if there is SQL connection probs ?

The competition told me:
"managing the website is up to you. We do not offer support on designs, editing, and content for your website. We only supply the hosting. Thank you."

The database is on thier box and runs fine from the webby displaying stats but the gameserver itself cannot connect to it to add admins or more stats. (the stats that are on it i uploaded from my old sql.

So If I come over to NFO will I get the support I need to make sure my server is able to connect to the database?
If so, You will have me as a new member in minutes...

I am currently waiting for a response from the compitition about canceling my account and getting my money back. (Didn't even make the 20 hr mark with them)

We do have MySQL available through our free webspace, and it would be accessible from the game server. We could try to support your accessing it in that manner, but we don't have a whole lot of experience with that since very few customers do it.

It's important to note that the MySQL server and game server would not be on the same machine or even at the same location, so if your plugin depends on quick, uncached access to the database (for instance, if it does a check whenever someone connects, and the server halts while it waits on the response) then you might experience some noticable problems.

NFo is my new home :)

Post by StRyDeR »

Well after many hours of compairing the services offered by many of the GSPs I can finaly say I found my new home!

My server was setup within minutes of purchase!
My MySQL database connected on first try!
The great support that I read about has not been needed. (This says alot in itself considering I am leaving another GSP because of the support I didnt get that was needed right from the start.)

I am glad I chose NFo. Too bad they were not my first choice. :(
