Forums Questions

Post by Hatz »

Hey, few questions with forums. Awhile ago, i think it was edge, made it so my forums auto forwarded to snkclan.nuclearfallout.net/forums. How do i get it back so it just goes to snkclan.nuclearfallout.net if i want to?

Second question, if i wanted to change my forum title and take nuclearfallout out and use a direct url, do you guys allow that? I'm assuming id have to go through some1 else to do so and pay for it.

Well if Edge changed the redirect to /forums you could probably go into the Index.html (presumably if this is how he did it) and look for the line possibly in Javascript to redirect to the /forums directory and just change it to " / " without the "" or just delete the index.html to effectively delete any redirects...

Keeping the file may not be a bad idea, just not as optimized as deleting it.

Also, if you want to change so nuclearfallout.net is not in the title, sign in as administrator of your PHPBB forums, then scroll down to the bottom to find "Go to Administration Panel".

In that panel, go to the General Admin tab. Then look for configuration and general board settings.

What "portal" are you talking about?... Redirects do not affect FTP at all. If you have website "random.com" and you have it redirected to random.com/forums, when you login to FTP with random.com you will be modifying the base directory (presumably public_html directory). When you modify the forums directory (which is /forums respectively), the forums directory is then accessed via FTP.

In other words,

FTP://random.com/forums = forums directory
FTP://random.com = public_html directory

Your post made little sense to me about the portal especially considering there's a new game and it was quite fun to play ;-).

Well if you change the URL to say snk-klan.net, you will need to do one of two things:
1) Transfer all forums info from snkclan.nfo.net --> your webhosting that owns the domain snk-klan.net.
OR
2) Buy the domain al a carte from a company then redirect it to snkclan.nfo.net

If you changed either of those (so long as you keep NFo game hosting), your MySQL db would NOT change URL/hostname.

If you get a new webhost completely (#1 option), you would probably have the option to run a new MySQL server from it instead of NFo in which case, you would have to change your SQL settings in the proper config file on your server to reflect that.

If you want a new webhost, find one that allows incoming transmissions from other servers besides the companies own. AVOID 1and1 at all costs, godaddy is not good for game servers either.

Absolutely Nothing but display "snk-klan.net forums..." on the forums page.

I suggest you read up on domains because snk-klan.net is a DOMAIN that no one owns and someone can easy own (such as me or you ;-)).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain

By not owning that domain yet advertising it, the owner of that domain (if there EVER is one), will get free advertising from you :-). I suggest you buy it from a domain registering company and create your own website/forums with it.

It's supremely easy to add support for your domain on our end. You'd just need to email us for that.

But, you will need to actually register the domain first, then point it to our webserver by following our guide at http://rentalforums.nuclearfallout.net/ ... php?t=1709

After setting up that domain, you can go into the forum administration panel and change the settings so that it properly uses it for its links.

Ok, well like I said, you CAN put that in your configuration but it just won't be true. If someone actually visited snk-klan.net, they would see a connection failed error more than likely until/unless someone decided to register that domain. You CAN buy a domain (ala carte) and do what Edge100x said or you can take more complicated routes...
