--> UT3 <--

Post by Mute »

(Sorry if this does no belong in support forums.)

Hey guys I have a sad story.
Just bought UT3 the other day. Installed and started to play, except I wasn't able to play. I double click on the servers in the master server browser, and all I get is that fancy sound, and no connection to the server, like I didn't click it.

I spread a post at UT3 forums, got a couple responses... (http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=612969 - unrealkry)
When I tried to reply I get this message...
mute, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
Besides that, I thought it might be because I have three drives. C, D, & E.
Windows is installed on E, UT3 was installed on C.
I did a fresh install and put UT3 on E drive with windows, still no go.
Any help is appreciated. If you need any more info, reply.
thanks.

To answer their questions on UT3 forum, they are both NO.
I dont even get a connection failed. Nothing but the sound as if it was connecting, but nothing happens after that. Of course its not my firewall its disabled and I even turned off anti virus, so i doubt its any of them.

You may need to talk to their forums admin about that inability to post. It's kind of an ironic problem :P

I have not had the problem that you're mentioning, so it's difficult to say what might be going on. I wouldn't think that it's related to the different partitions. All I can think to recommend is to try an updated video driver and see if that helps.

Thanks, I am currently running the most recent video driver from Nvidia.
Using a 7800GS OC. I would of never thought it would be a problem with my video drivers?. Who knows, tonight when I get home I'll try a different driver, I hear there is one made for running UT3.

Any information is greatly appreciated.
Ok, take care.

Are you behind a cable/DSL router and if so have you tried removing it from the equation?

Thanks.

Well, after contacting Midway Support, I came to a resolution.
After making a short video of my problem, ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eURH3-nBYcQ ) turns out it was my USERNAME that was causing the problem. You cannot have special characters in your name. Mine was x:Mute:x, I guess the : is classified a special character.
Thanks for the help, glad I can now enjoy ut3.
BTW, I just bought a UT3 server, so expect more problems from me! :p jk, but not really, ok, take care.

That was certainly an interesting problem, and I'm glad you were able to find help from the publisher!
