Donation Block

Post by MicroViper »

Has there been any talk of providing a donation meter or block for users? I understand that users can send payments via a payment link.

http://www.nfoservers.com/donate.pl

However, it would be outstanding if there were a bit of code we could place on our website to show who is donating and how much.

If you were to add a name & note field to the donate form, then kick out an rss feed based on the admins email...

Something like (rough idea)

-month: august
-totaldue: 39.99

--donationfrom: Edge100x
--date: 08/11/2009
--amount: 10.00
--runningtotaldue: 29.99
--note: awesome server!

--donationfrom: JoeBob
--date: 08/12/2009
--amount: 10.00
--runningtotaldue: 19.99
--note: ggz!

--donationfrom: MicroViper
--date: 09/1/2009
--amount: 19.99
--runningtotaldue: 0
--note: automatic payment

-month: september
-totaldue: 39.99

Just a thought as my teammates are already on me about it. If seeing their donations keeps them donating... I'm happy. :)

Keep up the good work.

That's a good idea and I will add it to my "to do" list :).

Mine's pretty darn long, but I'm trying to get through it as quickly as I can.

I use the AW Donation block incorporated on my forums.
Check it out @ www.47r-squad.com
Works great, people love it, and the award system is nice and you can customize it.
If you use vBulletin this is an amazing mod.

If you want to get it, check out http://www.forumcoding.com/ .

I understand there are paypal blocks available. I have used those before (and even written a few). That's not the issue I am looking to resolve. All of our servers are through NFO so all of our payments go directly to NFO. Because 100% of our donations go directly to NFO we incur no paypay fees.

As the donations are already tracked (in the admin panel) it would not be a huge jump to provide means (RSS/XML feed) to publicly track NFO donations.

Aye, it's on the "to do" list. It's not terrifically difficult, but it will take a few hours to write and debug, and I just have to fit that in with all the other things that need doing.

Ya know.. I know I write some pretty clean code (php, .net, java... little rusty with C++/C#, Python). I don't know if you want to go that route but if you're interested let me know.

I was just gonna ask about this, then I remembered this post. I want to have people donate to me in exchange for admin, and having the name part of it would help a lot. Then I don't have to figure out who donated when, how much, etc.

Bump. Not a major issue right now but when the latest battle field comes out we'll be dishing out bucks for big servers again.

BTW, IW.net and player matching for Modern Warfare 2 sucks. Lag fest. If only they had dedicated servers!

Good judgment comes from experience…and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Agreed. Not only is it a lagtastic, but I can't tell you how many games I have attempted to play in with blatent hackers. I loved the single player campaign and a few friends of mine really enjoy the cooperative mode. It's such a shame that all that work went into a game and the multiplayer fails due to lack of an obvious choice for PC gamers. For online play, dedicated servers are the ONLY choice.

I am not sure if any of you guys played Clancy's Rogue Spear, but it (playing MW2 mp) took me back to those days hosting 10 or 12 people on my ADSL line in the late 90's. At the time, it was fun because dedicated game servers were a thing of the future. Well, the future is here and IW.NET makes me long for "Chalet";)

Awhile ago I wrote an HTML block for a phpBB forum for showing donations. The block I wrote however is not automated. It's completely manual, but I am working on adding ACP support for it.

If you wanna see it, check it out @ http://www.weareepic.com/

In addition to what you can see on that block, there is another part of it that you can only see when logged in as an administrator.

If anyone wants the code for it, PM me and I'll send it to you.
