It looks like it might be right, but the best way to see would be to look in the access log for the website. That will show you if people are downloading from it :)

What I always did was went into my cstrike folder, deleted a map and connected to the server. Takes less than a minute and you know for sure if it's working. John's way works as well...I guess.... :lol:

John, how do I test out the server at 500 FPS?

For the smoothest 500fps on Windows, I recommend turning off HPET through the advanced options on the "Server control" page. Then, turn off your VDS through the OS and start it again through the "Server control" page for the change to take effect.

Instead of doing that easy option, you can try to address the underlying configuration problem and tweak things. I'd recommend trying things like:

* Running without plugins temporarily, to see if they're the culprit
* Making sure that your server is running as high priority/realtime and that you aren't logged in to RDC/VNC, etc
* Double-checking fps_max and making sure it's set to 0
* Locking the server to a core, or not to a core, if you already are
* Trying different values for the cvar net_queued_packet_thread
* Making sure that FAD is working properly (anyone downloading from the server will cause severe dips)
* Making sure that SourceTV is turned off
* Setting a different -tickrate
* Switching to a Linux platform

All of these can affect performance. The most likely culprit for the big drops would be plugins, and it's possible that your plugins are behaving differently now, since you were on Linux previously.

As I mentioned before, since you're not on the FPS Locker any more, there isn't an external system that can step in and correct for long frame/tick times, so you'll naturally have higher flux. However, drops all the way down to 70 should be very rare, with a properly configured setup.
John, is the FPS locker available for non managed servers?

No, it is not. John and NFO have done intense testing and kernel adjustments on their FPS locking system, and they don't have any plans on releasing it to the general public. You can still stable 950FPS on their Gentoo and CentOS VPS'. I'm sure Windows is the same thing.

So even if I switch to Linux that doesn't necessarily guarantee me a stable FPS...
Sounds a bit pointless if there is no stable FPS, will try the server without addons tomorrow.

I got 950+ FPS on CentOS. Never seen it drop from what I could see. That's more stable than most Hosting Companies out there, so ya. If you want a perfect 999 FPS, then you'd have to rent the server from NFO. Cheaper to do the VPS though. You wouldn't even notice the 50FPS drops anyways.

John, disabled all addons, no help.
I went to Mani Admin Plugin (new version) and running the server and it runs smooth with no lag spikes however the FPS issue is still there.
I can safely say my fps most of the time is not even at 1000fps. usually around 99 lately.
When I run different maps other than Dust2 or Office it takes forever for the maps to load, its not just me, this is happening to everyone in the server.
Sometime 25-30 seconds.
I have fast DL on, but that shouldn't matter since I run stock maps like aztec or inferno.
Other than FireDaemon I don't run many servers at all.
Just a private server 12 slots, 32 slots CS:S server and a teamspeak server 32 slots which usually has 3-4 people on.
For a 8 core server this should be more than sufficient, I just think I would be getting a better performance.

Since these are not problems that other renters have had, something strange is going on here. Please submit a support request and I'll check this out in more depth with you.
