I am not used to having a virtual server. Do you have to restart it every now and then and install the Windows Updates or is that automatical?
I am asking because I see that windows update has downloaded some updates but it hasn't installed them (the small yellow shield down in the right corner of the screen).
Do you have to restart a virtual server?

Yes, I would recommend applying Windows updates as soon as possible after they come out, to be safe. Most of the time, critical updates are for Internet Explorer or services that should be shut down (like "server"), so they don't need to be applied as quickly as with a normal Windows client, but they can still be important.
