Securing and Tweaking Memory

Post by nfogserver »

Hello!
I am proud user of NFOSERVERS!

Anyways, I was wondering what is the general "routine" to secure your server other than turning your firewall on. I want an answer like "make sure you do this, this and this"

Also, i noticed I have 496mb used and I haven't even installed anything yet. I was wondering what apps to close and such to have more space in RAM.

Thank you!

If you're running Windows, my stickied post is a good place to begin when it comes to server security: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =44&t=4025

Are you sure that the 496 MB isn't just being used for caching the disk? By default, all modern OSes use unallocated RAM as a big disk cache. If you are using Windows 2008 / 2008 R2, the number that you need to look for when it comes to memory is "available".
