I have recently rented a 2 core vds server from NFO and I have problem with ping on my l4d2 servers.
When I do a tracert to the servers, I got a replies of max 40 m/s. However, my ping on the servers is really high. It is like 70-80. It spike up to 120 whenever both servers are half-full.
my two servers is running 16slots each l4d2 and it runs on linux. If anyone can help me, fully thanks is a must from me .
It is normal and expected for L4D/L4D2 servers to show ~33ms higher pings in-game than from the command prompt, because these servers run at a tickrate of only 30.
If your latency goes up to 120 in the server when both servers are full, you may be running low on CPU; 16 slots isn't actually supported by the game, partially because it uses so much CPU power. Is the server FPS dipping in "rcon stats"? What sort of CPU usage are you seeing?
Even when the server is full, the cpu never went over 30% of the system overall according to the server health. In addition, the ram is like 1400mb available.
How do I go about checking the fps on rcon stats? Can you show me?
Never I figure it out how to check, on 1 server with 16 players. Fps is running at 89 and on 1 server with 2 players. Fps is running at 16. Is this correct?
The FPS shouldn't be at 89 on a Linux server unless you have done something to alter the maximum FPS (as we do for our Windows servers). The game normally caps it at 30, which actually works pretty well.
Is this a managed server or an unmanaged server?
What CPU usage are you seeing on a per-process basis?
I think John or someone from the department alter the fps. from what I have checked on the virtual machine. its reported at 30% cpu when both servers is almost full. From the hlsw rcon, 1 server reported 23% and the other server reported 16%. This is a managed linux server.
