Hi,
My server is running great, this is just a simple question on my VDS.
I run a 40+ orangebox CSS server with one really big plugin and a few small ones. Mostly big maps we play.
My question is, when I log into the VDS thru VNC and check the CPU usage when server has 40+ players it sits around 35-45%. How much of this cpu usage could be caused from the VNC connection?
I am trying to monitor the usage as much as I can without causing any interruptions to the game server but am not sure if I am getting accurate results. I am close enough, but I am thinking of adding another and would like to know just in case.
Maybe there is a type of software that can monitor this over a website.
If you know of any hit me with names. I'll figure it out from there.
Thanks.

Re: VDS orangebox server CPU usage
It's tough to estimate that from here, but you could find this out by connecting with Remote Desktop or SSH (depending on your OS) and comparing.Spifft wrote:My question is, when I log into the VDS thru VNC and check the CPU usage when server has 40+ players it sits around 35-45%. Unless you need to fix a boot problem or a network problem, you should always use Remote Desktop or SSH. There's no advantage to using VNC under normal circumstances, and many disadvantages.
If you are using Windows, make sure that you multiply that CPU usage number in the task manager by the number of cores on your machine, to find out how much of a single core the software is using.

Ok did this and it showed minimal CPU difference which is great. How ever this was also my first time using remote desktop and man, that is so much easier. Thanks for the tip.
