Keep getting 404 error

Post by r1d1culous »

Hello,

My clan runs vbulletin. Im trying to upload a plugin and it keeps giving me a 404 error. I thought maybe this was a vbulletin error but now Im wondering if its the site. I manage another vbulletin site on another host and the plugins work fine. Could it be a php error as the files are php files. I also thought maybe it could be just that one plugin but now theres 3 seperate plugins that give me the same error. I make sure the url was right and the files are uploaded in the right area and everything checks out. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

404 means that the file was not found. Are you missing the script that is supposed to be processing the upload?

No everything is there. It works perfectly fine on my other vbulletin site, just not on the one on nfo. Everything checks out, files are in the right spot.

The 404 does indicate that something important is not where it needs to be. What is the URL that is giving you the problem?

Its a plugin for vbulletin heres the page:
http://righttorebel.net/competitions.php?

Competitions is in the right folder, the file works fine, and Ive checked all the settings. This exact file works on a separate forum and the install is very easy to do so its not hard to mess up

Are you sure that is correct? From the link I am guessing that the vBulletin and the plugin are installed in the public_html directory? Their are no folders where the plugin script is located. Which in term would make your link look something like this:

http://righttorebel.net/plugins/competitions.php?

It should work its pointing right to it. For example, righttorebel.net/forum.php is our forum. Righttorebel.net/competitions.php is a direct link to that competitions.php file as its in the root directory where it needs to be

Ok this is a bit more in depth but maybe itll help

First off heres the directions:
"1) upload (Allow Overwrite "YES" for overwrite)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
competitions.php -> \
ladders.php -> \
tournaments.php -> \
ajax_competitions.php -> \
javascript_competitions.js -> \clientscript\
functions_tal.php -> \includes\
bitfield_tournament2008.xml -> \includes\xml\
index.html -> \images\teamlogos\

Competitions.php is in upload/competitions.php (vbulletin root folder)

Just to clarify are all of the above files in the main directory or is their a competition folder in the root directory holding the files?

Also do you have it set so that people are not allowed to access files on your server? From the searching I have done I was unable to view your folders by typing in the root directory in my browser:

http://righttorebel.net/images/brave/
http://righttorebel.net/images/
http://righttorebel.net/images/brave/site_icons/

That could be an issue with privileges not allowing anyone to read the file.

Theres no folder just the file itself directly in the root

And the permissions Ill look into that. Maybe thats causing the problem.

Either way thank you greatly for your time and effort its very much appreciated

I am not showing that righttorebel.net is actually hosted here. Right now, it's pointing to the IP 74.208.206.25, which is a different webhosting provider.

?? Righttorebel.net is hosted here. I have all of the database files off of my nfo control panel. How could it not be hosted from you?

If you added it through our system, you must have had the DNS servers pointed to us at that time. However, now the DNS servers are pointed at a different company's name servers, and those name servers are responding to requests for righttorebel.net with an IP that is not ours.

Their could be a delay in the whois updating however it shouldn't be to long. Can you confirm you changed your websites DNS servers to point towards NFO?
