Procon on dedicated server?

Post by r1d1culous »

Is there any way we could set up procon on our dedicated box? Or any admin tools? We have someone hosting it right now but its such a pain when we need to add something to it or update it. We would rather just host it ourselves if possible.

Any help is appreciated thanks!

If you already have an unmanaged (not managed) VDS or full machine with us, you could host it on that. If you do not, the cheapest way would be to rent a single-core VDS from us and install it on that.

You can find some places offering ProCon layer hosting for like $1.99 a month for basic ProCon hosting. If you search the net for rcon hosting sites, you can find premium ProCon hosting that come with stats tracking for a one time fee (per game server) unlimited hosting.

We already have hosting as I mentioned. I just hate when it goes down we have to wait sometimes hours on end until they get it back up and running. We have to have admin on our servers or they go to crap. Wed like procon on our dedicated server and host it ourselves. We just came off of a VDS b/c it wouldnt handle our servers. We have another dedicated server mostly for webhosting but its linux and procon doesnt support linux.. I was seeing if you guys hosted on the dedicated

TimeX had it right. We don't currently offer Procon layer hosting here, so you'd either have to go with a 3rd party, run it yourself from one of your admin's client machine, or run it from an unmanaged VDS.

We also have our own basic admin daemon, that you can enable through the "Easy setup" page in your control panel.

Procon layer hosting is something that I've been planning to add for a long while but just haven't had the time to implement.

Is there any way we can load it ourselves and manage it ourselves? We have a dedicated box from you guys. Thats really what we want, we dont want anyone to have to manage it for us. If it goes down its our problem, not anyone elses. Thats the main reason we want to move it away from our current host b/c we have to wait hours on end sometimes for them to get to our ticket. And when you have 3-4 servers full with no admin it sucks.

We had a VDS from you but it wasnt powerful enough for our BC2 servers. Im not paying 30$ a month just for procon. Especially when we just upped to a dedicated box.

There are not other options than the ones we listed. To rephrase my last post as bullet points:

* We don't run Procon servers here right now
* You could run it yourself from an admin's machine, an unmanaged VDS, or some other external place
* Our plan is to add Procon layer hosting here directly but I have not had time to implement it

If you want to run a "layer server" yourself, you can load it onto your client machine. You can't load it onto a managed dedicated server.

B3 is the same story as Procon. That one may even have the requirement of needing to be on the same machine as the game server, but I can't remember for sure.

There aren't any tools for BC2/MoH that need to be run on the same machine as the game server; all are done remotely. This is because of EA requirements and how the game does logging.

It would be nice if NFO offered ProCon as a perk for bfbc2 customers. A lot of people like the in-game stats and web-stats.

Only option right now is to pay another site a one time fee ($20) for premium procon hosting that comes with stats. It would be worth it for people who have to wait hours for one person to re-connect ProCon to the server.

I was hosting procon on a 2nd computer at home until it died. I am paying about $2-3/mo to have it hosted in Dallas now. There are a few gsps provide it but the ones I found were in Indy and Chicago.

If it is provided here in the future, we would switch hosting procon to nfo. :D

We did run B3 for a bit, B3 recommends:
Python needs to be running on the same machine as B3 is running on. That's the most important issue when installing python. If you have sufficient rights to install python on the server that also holds your gameserver, this is the best option.
