Hello

Post by FeAR. »

Hello,

I've been browsing the site (along with other server companies) and i stumbled upon your VDS/VPS servers. I'm interested to know just how good the quality is, and just how good the servers run in general. I was reading the capacity for your dual core VDS, 2-6 servers is that realistic, it only has 2 gigs of memory? If so what kind of capacity could i hold if i wanted to run 3 HL cs 1.6 servers, each 32 man public. Would that be possible with minimal lag?

if not is it possible to make ram upgrades without switching cores? Please get back to me soon, im quite interested.

The 2-core VDS should be able to run two servers at that size, though more may be possible. RAM upgrades are limited by availability and location. While a RAM upgrade shouldn't be needed for running typical game servers given the amount of RAM we offer as standard, we can check into it for you if the need comes up.

CS 1.6 servers are fairly light on resources and you shouldn't normally see more than 100 or 200 MB per server unless you are running extraordinarily problematic plugins :). 2 GB is actually enough to run 2-6 servers of just about any game type.

Well if that is the case then i will be probably be purchasing that particular server box. I would like to host approximately 4 servers. Lets talk about these ram upgrades, even though you stated that 2gb's is quite enough, lag may occur. These servers may very well sustain many players due to the particular cs clan they will be for, but im willing to test your word and see just how well they hold up.

To answer your question about location, chicago seems like where im going to be setting up. So would a 2gb ram upgrade be possible, just in case an upgrade is necessary?

I do have machines that I can offer RAM upgrades for in Chicago, and we could make sure that you are put on one of these. 2 GB is high, but 1 GB should be doable.

If you're running 4 CS 1.6 servers, you shouldn't have any problems with RAM -- you should have a ton free, for use as file cache, which is good.

You are allowed to run any type of server on an unmanaged machine as long as it does not break our TOS\

You are going to want to refer to the "Virtual dedicated servers and dedicated machines. " section. As long as we do not mention it in their, you should be ok.

kraze is saying that we don't regulate what you run on an unmanaged VDS, apart from the limited rules that we mention in the TOS. In the case of running a Valve game server, you, not us, would be legally obligated to follow the EULA with Valve, unlike with our regular managed product, and you could choose to break that EULA by running a nosteam/dproto/whatever server. We encourage you not to, but we do not police the software that you run beyond what we are legally required to do and what our TOS covers.

This is as good as you're ever going to be able to get from a host.
