Which game is this referring to? Maps will generally need to go into a maps folder, but there ir slight differences with some games.

Its left for dead 2. I put the Vpk in the addons folder, but it wont show up. Thats where they are held for the single player version of custom maps

That is the correct place to put them, but you will need to restart the server after uploading them. Once you have, the server should be able to run them fine if the proper game mode is set.

I try to connect through survival lobby but it never finds my server, idk how to set it into survival mode...

also how do i set an SM_cvar command to be used when server is started. I tried putting in the server.cfg in ftp, but idk if thats the right place, the sm_cvar still has to be manually put in by me whenever map changes.

You can restrict your server to running particular game modes if you'd like, and start it up with a particular game mode when you load the first map. We talk about how to do this here: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =49&t=4146

What cvar are you attempting to change with sm_cvar? I would expect for putting it in server.cfg to work, but you might also try autoexec.cfg.
