[dedicated] registry

Post by joshtrav »

We have a ssd option dedicated based out of Chicago. Currently we are only running Apache and two 38 slot servers. We are getting a lot of registry complaints.

I realize it is not the machine but more likely a config issue.

I was hoping someone could post some tips or links to help us boost it.

The first thing I would recommend is going through our extensive lag troubleshooting guide here: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =25&t=3930

This will help you tune the server and game clients for best performance, and help identify problems.

I had looked at that previously Timex. The issue I have is that I don't have a control page like a normal hosted server.

I was thinking more like command line parameters as well as some tweaks NFO may share or other users on the boards.

That guide would apply to pretty much any server, even without a control panel. As far as command line options and the like go, our game setup guides may prove helpful:

One thing I have learned is to set a high min rate for your server.

Also see what FPS your server is running at. It should at minimum match your servers tic and be able to hold that. I would say 250 would be good value to stick with.If you can go higher, go higher.

sv_maxupdaterate (Set this to the tic rate)
sv_maxrate 0
sv_unlag 1 (This might help a little for clients with higher pings)
fps_max 0
sv_minrate 100000

Also be aware of the plugins, mods and so on you are putting on your server. All it takes is one bad plugin to cause major performance issues.

If this comes down to a routing issue. Have your users run MTR's and send them to us. If there is an issue we can most likely work with Internap on it.

Thanks for the info Kraze.

Out of curiosity, does sv_unlag do anything anymore? I got rid of it a while ago as it just gives unknown command errors when I put it in the server.cfg

It may not work anymore for some games. If you let me know which game this is for, I'll look it up for you.

sv_unlag most likely will still work. It will basically even the playing fields for people with higher pings.

An example of this is;

If a person with a higher ping shoots someone with a higher or even lower ping and due to lag the shot did not register with this on it would most likely register a shot.

However some people do not like this because this will result in people being behind walls and still getting shot.
