Anyone else been following the storm? I find it interesting how they are saying that the lower areas are now going to be flooded with 6-12 feet of water. John, which data center is NFO run out of in NY? Hopefully they aren't in a lower area, they may have to run on back up generators for a few days!

We're in a datacenter downtown, near the old WTC. InterNAP is bumping up facilities staff and double-checking all of their emergency precautions, and we don't expect any sort of service outage on the datacenter side. Outages on the ISP side.. that's another matter!

Well hopefully it's not as bad as they are saying. I'm gonna assume you've already checked with the facility on what they are doing to prepare for the storm? That's a lot of water to take in a short amount of time.

Yes, InterNAP communicated to us the precautions that they are taking, including additional staffing, precautionary checks, and making sure that all emergency supplies are well-stocked. They have enough fuel on hand to operate generators for a minimum of 60 hours without refueling and have fuel suppliers on-call. Our servers are located on the 14th floor of the building.

The datacenter is built to easily withstand this sort of event, and to outlast surrounding buildings and infrastructure. Before it goes down, I'd expect to see very high death counts and sensational disaster stories about NYC being effectively razed.

It may just have to have floating devices with the sounds of 6-12FT of flooding in lower NY. Servers are on 14th floor, that's always a nice thing. As long as the doors on main floor can hold back the water, it's all good!

Good to hear. Got a call from my friend in Montreal and she hasn't had power all day. Seems they are getting hit hard as well. 100+mm of rain and wind gusts of 120km/h. Seems NY wasn't hit nearly as bad as they were saying.
