Question about Minecraft

Post by .=QUACK=.Major.Pain »

Our kids are all playing on our minecraft server, and with the addition of more plugins, the memory usage has increased quite a bit to the point that we are seeing using almost all of the 1024 allocated for the game.

Also notice this happen when large tnt explosions are set off.

When done it seems the memory usage creeps up slowly even after all events are finished, and eventually the game server crashes.

Other than removing some plugins is there another remedy?

Unfortunately plugins are usually the cause of high memory usage. I would examine all the servers plugins and make sure they are up to date. Also disable any that you do not need.

Another plugin is to upgrade the servers ram.

Running a 4 core now. with very few games running.

Or are you talking about game server?
Running our server with McMyAdmin right now, so not sure how to increase memory above 1024MB

Not too familiar with MCmyadmin but you should be able to just allocate more memory to Java it self.

These are client side instructions but will work for server side.

You increase the RAM allowed in McMyAdmin in the McMyAdmin.conf file.

Thanks - that increased it.
Hopefully the crashing will end.

If the server is crashing, I would check the logs to see whats going on. Usually when you run low on memory you just get a lot of lag.

If you are having memory issues, Performance Tweaks is not the plugin you'd want to run, especially if you're using McMyAdmin to schedule your saves. The plugin forces chunks to stay in memory longer, even after someone has left the area, so they build up.

Performance Tweaks is a mediocre plugin for SPEED, at best, not for memory.

We installed PTweaks some time ago, and it boosted the performance greatly and we never noticed any issues with McMyAdmin.

It just seemed this past weekend, after adding more plugins, the memory increased greatly. I removed some of the plugins. Many the Essentials Extras which seemed to be the worst. The GeoIP and XXamp or whatever it's called. Things the kids don't really need.
