Forum management, listing sub forums in legend

Post by Clay52 »

Ok so I have a main forum called Hardware which has several subforums which are showing in it's legend but the problem I have is that these sub-forums themselves have subforums of which I only want showing in their respective parent subforum legends, not in the main "Hardware" forum legend. How may I keep this straight?

I'd like to only see CPUs subforums here:

not also in the main Hardware legend, where rather I just want to see the subforums themselves, not their own subforums, I hope this is clear enough.

You need to edit the subforums and change "List subforum in parent-forum’s legend" to "No".

I've tried that but that's not what I'm looking for but I wasn't as clear as I would've liked above either. In the 2nd pic in the post above I want just CPUs to show, not it's subforums Intel and AMD. However of course I want those two subforums to show in the CPUs legend.

Have you tried "List subforums in legend" to "no" for the "CPUs" forum? It sounds like that's what you want.

Looks like a phpBB2 forum?
Is the site up to date?

We had one forum like this in the past, and it only should sub-forums under each of there parent forums. Not sure why yours appears on the main index page.
Does it allow for setting the parent forum when allowing sub-forums to appear?

Hi MP, no BB2 just phpBB and it's up to date at 3.09 and thanks for noticing my problem, why they are showing up on the main index page. Now these two options are checked "Yes" and I've read them several times and I'm still not certain I understand them fully.

List subforums in legend:
Displays this forum’s subforums on the index and elsewhere as a link within the legend if their “List subforum in parent-forum’s legend” option is enabled.

"Yes"

List subforum in parent-forum’s legend:
Displays this forum on the index and elsewhere as a link within the legend of its parent-forum if the parent-forum’s “List subforums in legend” option is enabled.

"Yes"

You can just test them and see what happens -- there's no harm in it. "List subforums in legend" is probably the one you want to set to "no" for your "CPUs" forum, as I mentioned. If your experimentation turns up that no combination of these options works, then you'll have to look for an addon to do it.

Yep will do and thanks for the patience and hanging in there for me John. Yeah it's funny how that's setup, can't imagine having a ton of subforums and having it all cluttering up the main index legend. I can do w/o the CPU subs showing in CPUs, thanks again.

Mybb is easier to use and the features are more abundant than phpbb...
