Need Server For Falcon BMS

Post by drillin »

OK all pardon me if i ask a question that has a silly answer, but heres my problem, I run a Falcon BMS wing, one with a growing member list and i need to get a server up so that we can all connect to it without choking out one hosts machine. I have been told that a dedicated server is the way to go, but its fairly pricey, so i was wondering if a virtual server could work, and how i would install falcon onto it and even if it would work. Any help would be appreciated guys thanks.

A dedicated server would definitely be one way to go, but I think a VDS would do you just fine. Have you been able to see what kind of resources it uses?

I'd recommend testing a free trial on an unmanaged VDS here first. As long as the game doesn't have unusual hardware requirements (like a hardware graphics accelerator), I'd expect it to work well.

No falcon dosent use any graphics accelerators at all, my queston is when/if i order im not sure what i need for it, (kinda server dumb lol) the biggest thing for me (i think anyway) is the upload/download speed availible from the server. and how i would actually install falcon onto your servers, so m sorry for my ignorance just happened upon you guys here and this looks like the most promising, rather then having to spend 300 bucks a month on a server.

thanks guys

All of our locations run off 1GB connects, except Denver. Dallas and Chicago are also connected to a 10GB backbone, So speed should not be an issue.

Personally I would say start off with a two core and see how it performs.

You definitely won't have any problems with download speed. Your VDS will have full access to a full gigE.

Sorry for bumping this old thread but I'm also interested in hosting Falcon BMS 4.32.
Anyone (in the meantime) managed to get this hosted on nfoservers and if yes, what were the results?

I'm from Croatia and would need a host for at least 5-6 guys. Any way of testing this out somehow before considering renting?

Thanks.
