How to setup name servers windows 2003

Post by vasili »

Hi I recently bought a domain, lets call it domain.com.

I then just bought a VPS from NFO and I want to have it so my ip address is replaced with domain.com.

I installed the DNS service, but I have no idea how to create nameservers through to get this to work.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I have one ip, so I hope this is possible.

I would recommend against running your own name servers, as most registrars provide DNS hosting for free, and there are also free 3rd-party solutions such as everydns.net. (We provide free DNS with our webhosting plans, as well.) You certainly can, if you'd like, but I don't have experience with setting up Windows-based DNS daemons, myself.

The domain server fields on the network adapter relate to resolving IPs on the VDS, such as to download files to the VDS. To make your domain point to your VDS IP, you will need to use a separate DNS server daemon or 3rd-party DNS server, such as the one provided by your registrar or everydns.net.
