Interested in a server!

Post by Reinvented »

Hi NFO Support,

I got sent here because I'm very interested in a server from you guys! I've heard some pretty good things for the most part, and I just had a few questions that I am hoping you can answer!

I have worked with dedicated servers before, but they were expensive and provided by The Planet (which is no longer around). And even had a dedicated box from Defcon Servers.

Currently I am interested in starting a few Counter-Strike: Source Beta servers for some friends and what not. Would I be able to utilize your VDS or even a Dedicated server? Also, would these be managed or un-managed? And, what is the difference between the two feature wise? (i.e. what would I not be able to do, etc?) If none of that is possible, can I get one of the game server rentals and have you guys install that for me?

I hope that's not too many questions!

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

We offer a wide variety of options for VDS server and high performance options for dedicated servers. You can find these options here;
https://www.nfoservers.com/order-virtua ... server.php
https://www.nfoservers.com/order-dedicated-server.php

In your case I would recommend a 2 or 3 core VDS server depending on how many servers you want to run. We give you the option to choose managed or unmanaged, personally I believe managed is the best and should do you well. However if you would like your server to be a beta server you would need to contact us so we can do that.

We talk a lot about managed and unmanaged, how they perform and what you can and cannot do with them here;

To be more specific;

http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =51&t=4561

We even guarantee the performance, with our performance guarantee! (Game server,voice server and managed VDS only)

If you have any further questions please go ahead and post here or open a support request on our site by going to "Support" and 'Contact Us".

Hello Kraze!

Thank you for your response!

I think I am only just interested in one server. I don't really have too much time to deal with managing it, so a VDS is probably out of the question. Is it possible I can just rent a game server from you guys and you install Counter-Strike: Source Beta?

And if that's not do-able, is it possible to get a managed VDS as you suggested and get the game installed?

Please let me know!

Thanks in advance!

If it's listed on the order screen you can rent a game server.
If it's listed on the order screen you can get it on VDS managed.
If it's not listed on the order screen, you have to install it yourself on unmanaged VDS.

Staff might be able to assist you through it on 3rd option, or if there is an interest by others, they may include it on the order page.

CS:S beta isn't something that we'd be able to support on a managed configuration or standalone game server right now, so you'd have to run it on an unmanaged VDS. This game should be relatively easy to install and I wouldn't expect you to need more than a single-core configuration if you are not planning to run other services. The installation procedure would be very similar to the one for CS:S -- those instructions would make a good starting point: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =67&t=4107

What are the requirements for the install? If it is something that can be done via FTP you can do that yourself by connecting to FTP.

It depends on a few more specifics, such as which files need to be uploaded/replaced. If core binary or exe files need to be replaced, that can be a problem with a managed server. Unmanaged servers have unlimited access of course, so nothing would be a problem with them.
