Server Ping Very High

Post by .=QUACK=.Major.Pain »

Not sure what's going on, but our server from my location usually ranges from 60-75, and tonight it's ranging up near 230-240 area. It's running 3-4 times higher than normal.

It sounds as though you're having a personal routing problem. Please contact us directly with your tracert to the server and IP (http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =25&t=1539).

Not on my end.

Other favourite servers on my end have normal pings, and I checked with others on TS3 and they see the same thing.

Anyway, it has now dropped to mid 70's.

Was up there for quite a while.

It was likely to be somewhere in the middle -- not on your end, and not on ours. It is common for ISPs and NSPs to experience problems with their peers, and when this happens, packet loss and higher-than-normal latencies can occur. In such cases, if the problem can be resolved by a different NSP selection on the path from us to you, InterNAP can assist us in working around the problem.

The traceroute would have allowed me to pinpoint where the routing problem was occurring, when combined with my traceroute to you in the opposite direction. Being a personal problem of yours, something that we officially support directly, and requiring interaction with you to resolve, it needed to be handled through the support system.

We see this sort of thing all the time, so the procedure to deal with it is well-defined.
