Email Client

Post by karnifex »

I was wondering if there were alternate webmail clients available? I started using an email for the first time through a website I host here and realized it's pretty outdated. It's missing some very key features like allowing people to set their own password, or mail forwarding, even just simple user interface problems like no way to mass delete emails, etc.

Thanks,
Jonathan

I do need to upload the version of the mail client at webmail.nfoservers.com, and add an additional client option there, but unfortunately I have not had time to do it yet.

For advanced features, I would recommend using a desktop email client instead of the web client. Thunderbird is a good free client, and Windows Live Mail/Outlook Express also works well. Both are more powerful than any webmail system.

To change your password, currently you would need to use the Mail page in the control panel. I will also be adding a separate tool for users to change their own passwords when I update the webmail client (this is not something that a webmail or desktop client can provide).

Thank you for the quick response. I figured using a free webmail client may offer most of these options. I like that the mail can be setup as an IMAP in my mail client and have done so, but I have a few guys that also have email addys and they can't change their passwords etc. I did figure out how to mass delete, as all you have to do is highlight all the messages and drag them to the folder or press the delete button.

Nod. Mail forwarding and client password changes are both functions not supported by IMAP, so they typically can't be done through mail clients. I will be adding the password changing tool as a link on the webmail login page, but forwarding is something I would likely have to put into the control panel.

That would be fine. I just like to have random emails for my sites like "info@URL.com" and I want them all to forward to my primary email to make them easier to check from my phone. Just a note I'm only saying set it up like gmail where you can forward a copy to another email address while keeping a copy in the inbox.

Hmm, that's actually harder to do than a regular forward.

This is something I'll have put on my "to do" list for you to investigate at a later time. I wish I weren't so swamped right now!

I'm also interested in having a better web client. I would rather hand out temporary passwords and have my members be able to change them later. And the forwarding is interesting as I would probably forward my emails to my gmail account as I check that more often

Wow, if you could set up email forwarding through the control panel in the near future, that would be AMAZING. I desperately need this. Thank you so much.

This has been implemented now. Users only need to log in to the webmail and go to the Settings page, then click Password.
