Suffering from FPS problem
Hi,
I have rented your 1 core VPS since 2 months from now. At first I didnt realize that it is the low FPS is that my server's having is what causes all the lag/ loss going on in my server ( Its like no respond for 1-2s ). Right now I knew that FPS problem relates to t'he amount of plugin on my server and my VPS CPU usage (mainly). But I still couldnt figure out why's my server's FPS is unstable. Im using xp2003, FPS jumps from 500 to 175 and even 40 when theres alot of players on my server. But then they all left cause the server's FPS is really low and unstable. Even though my CPU usage is just 20-40 percent at max. I really hope this can be solve and continue the run my server.

Re: Suffering from FPS problem
As you said in your reply, the problem is most likely because of plugins. Have you attempted to disable all your plugins to see if the server plays any better?

Re: Suffering from FPS problem
Yes I did, not all but most of them. Cant actually disable all of them since I'm not running a cs1.6 classic server and I need more then 14 players to play on the server to see how it goes. But yes, I disabled alot already, but no luck.
Re: Suffering from FPS problem
With a CS 1.6 server, this would definitely be plugins. CS 1.6 just does not use enough CPU on its own to cause big FPS dips on modern hardware, even for full servers.
Re: Suffering from FPS problem
Do you have a simpler way to explain what happens after Oct. 13, 2011?

What do you mean by •Standard Windows servers and •Linux servers with the FPS Locker? What is FPS locker? so server won't have 1000fps on linux?
Sorry I'm new to these stuff. I want to try to swtich my OS to linux to see if my servers gets any better.

Re: Suffering from FPS problem
That change only applies to CSS servers and not 1.6 servers.sharp wrote:Do you have a simpler way to explain what happens after Oct. 13, 2011?

However what he means by FPS locker is that the FPS is extremely stable, you won't see jumps/spikes of 500-1000FPS. You will see a very steady 1000FPS, of course that only applies to shared stock OB servers.

Re: Suffering from FPS problem
I'm acutallly suffering from a weird problem since I rented my VPS. My net_graph 1 shows a completely red from the green line once a while and no respond for 1-3seconds when I play. At first, I thought this is a network problem, but then the MTP results shows there's not packet loss. Later on I found out that my server's FPS is quite low (jumping around). Although not 100%about it, but I think this is weird problem is probably because the server is no responding when its FPS lowers to 20-40, and that make sense if the netgraph is telling me there's no output/ input.
What I have tried already:
1. Close all the servers and run only 1 server (one server will effect another)
2. Disable plugins (no matter what type of server, gungame, dm ,etc OR disable all of them)
3. Run server in Real Time. (CPU->sleep less)
but none of them is working. And my server is also unplayable when theres mor than 16 players in the server. people just left the server, cause the fps is too low. Is it because 500FPS is not enough the run CSDM? My netgraph tells me that I only have 30-50 fps when theres lots of people.

Re: Suffering from FPS problem
Are you certain that you are looking at Server FPS and not client FPS by mistake? Where exactly are you checking the FPS at?

Re: Suffering from FPS problem
That would be server FPS and a slowdown that large could mean that you are hitting max CPU usage with a CPU spike. Have you monitored your CPU usage during these FPS drops?

Re: Suffering from FPS problem
I did check my CPU usage whenever theres alot of people in my server.
What I did see is that my CPU didnt reach maximun usage
right now its 0-50 percent at max.
Eventhough the CPU usage is not alot, its still possible to see the server fps jumps downs to 175fps and even 40fps from console, so I dont think its the CPU usage problem.

Re: Suffering from FPS problem
FPS dips occur when the overall CPU usage for the machine/VPS increases momentarily such that the server can't keep up. In your case, it appears that it's due to a plugin. Potentially it could also be due to some sort of attack on your server or as a result of other tasks that you are performing on the VDS at the same time. You should definitely test without plugins.
Re: Suffering from FPS problem
I did try to decrease the cpu usuage as much as possible and tested without plugins, but still couldn't figure out why.
I'm just saying what if this is not cause by the low fps problem, what else can it be to see to net_graph in cs to have a red line? (no data is receiving/sending?)

Re: Suffering from FPS problem
That could indicate a network problem between you and the server or a hitch on the server side (such as a delay while attempting to read the hard drive). If you're testing while connected through remote desktop or VNC, I recommend doing some tests without them, as they can cause this sort of behavior.
