Game Server or Virtual Dedicated Server?

Post by Dcmetax »

Hello,

I Plan to buy a garrysmod server from you guys, on the Premium Seattle Network,
Yet the server I plan to get is the same price as a 1 core Virtual Dedicated Server.

The garrysmod server should be able to handle 20+ players, and huge 300+ prop contraptions, and I know that the game servers packages can handle this.

I'm not sure what one to choose.

If you want it to come with a control panel, free webhosting, and support, go with the regular shared game server offering. If you want to do everything yourself, then you could try the unmanaged setup -- though I don't usually recommend the single-core option, for performance reasons.

I was asking about performance, should have been more clear.

The keyboard I was using was jammed :/

Anyways,

Thanks!

Performance wise, I'd recommend the shared game server over the single-core VDS. It would have a bit of a performance edge because it could extend onto multiple cores and you do not have to worry about the overhead of the OS potentially getting in the way.
