XP Pro?

Post by kolt »

Is there anyway to install windows XP professional onto a VDS?

Reason being is that I run a small server from my house using my old laptop. I have windows XP on it. I have tried multiple OS's to see which one runs the best.

The PC:
CPU: Intel Core2Duo T5750 @2.00GHz
RAM: Hynix DDR2 2x2GB
CHIP: Intel mobo I think.. nothing special.

I have tried using windows server, windows 7, and it seems the best operating system is windows XP 32bit. The 64bit version runs like poo on every pc I have ever ran it on.

I basically let my friend use it to run his small minecraft server. Well on windows server 2k8, we seem to notice more lag upon joining server. Seems server also uses 600mb of RAM after just starting. Once we load mc, it goes to 2gb [expected].

On XP, after a fresh boot, it only uses 116MB of ram.... and everything seems really snappy. Sure I can't utilize all of my processor or RAM but everything just seems to work better without it.

So my main question, is there a way to get XP Pro on a VDS from you guys? :o

Siden0te:
That laptop was a victim of an RDP bug. I went on it a few days ago and there was some chinese VPN stuff on there that me nor my friend installed.. lol It was removed and all is back to normal on it. Just a personal exp share. :p

Microsoft does not allow us to install consumer OSes such as Windows XP or Windows 7 on servers. However, you can install Windows Server 2003 x86, which has the same core as 32-bit Windows XP.

Not sure why you are having issues with x64, it's the way everything is going.
