Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Post by Hoffman »

Hey,

I am curious whether NFO will be holding any sort of pre-order for CS:Go servers like they did with BF3.

I'm anxious to get my hands on one as quick as possible.

Do you know if it will be as open for modification as CS:S and 1.6?

Ps.

I know there is prob 100 of these threads somewhere beyond my efforts to find them. Sorry in advance.

We have not had any recent information on CS:GO but there will be dedicated servers. It is unlikely we will offer pre-orders from them, unless we get our hands on the files before release.

Knowing Valve and how they have done other games, I am sure CS:GO will be just as open to modification as the others.

That's good news because it means that we can start testing the files, and customers will be able to start testing the files on their unmanaged VDSes.

Will this be available today? I might order a VDS if it will.

We most likely wont offer beta servers. However you are welcome to run one on an unmanaged VDS if you wish.

Are the beta files already available in a VDS?

I'm not sure that we actually *could* offer beta servers, since Valve seems to want them tied to individual user accounts, and they'll need to be updated frequently. But, I'll be exploring how things work and how the server performs next week.

LucasG, Valve has made the files available to those with beta keys, and these files can be used on unmanaged VDSes/machines. This has more information: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wik ... _Offensive

For some reason I thought VDS worked only with the NFO interface and the only games you could install were the supported? Guess I'll order one and get me a few servers setup then.

You actually need a CS-GO account to install the server.
Regular steam login not accepted.

Got it up and running. Runs pretty smooth, will be testing it for a while.

You are thinking of a managed VDS. An unmanaged VDS just gives you access to the OS and lets you install things on your own, which I'm sure you already noticed.

The process of doing all of this seems like a hassle. Hopefully they will add the files to hldsupdatetool later on.

This game is still in Beta isn't it?

Another GSP is currently selling slots at $0.89/slot, and your server will be up in minutes and ready to play.

Wouldn't that be against the CS-GO companies terms and conditions?

I figure that it can't be legit charging people for servers before the game is released.
