Xampp Issue

I'm trying to run a mysql server using xampp, only everytime I start mysql it starts then turns off right away. Could this be caused by the port being blocked? It was working fine when windows was first installed, then all of a sudden after windows updates it stopped working.

We do not block ports on our end, and this would not cause it to crash.

I would recommend switching away from XAMPP, if you can, as we've seen many security problems with its default configuration. If you wish to stick with this package, checking the MySQL error log output will be a good next step.
