Help for my Virtual Server
Hello, I recently purchased a virtual server from NFO, and I think I may have the wrong idea of how to exactly host a server. I have been following a tutorial that involves Virtual Box and openSUSE, but some of the steps are beyond me. (Mostly the ones that involve IP's.) I'm sorry if I missed something somewhere, but how exactly would I go about hosting my Team Fortress 2 server using your site? Thanks for any help you may provide!

Re: Help for my Virtual Server
Are you using managed or unmanaged?
Managed, you just place an order on the order page, and at the bottom, select your current VDS. On the next page, it will confirm the order with balance of $0.00.

Re: Help for my Virtual Server
On an unmanaged VDS, you won't need to run VirtualBox or to do anything in terms of assigning IPs, since we set up the base system and the IPs for you.
The installation steps for TF2 will be similar to the ones we give here for CS:S: http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewto ... =67&t=4545. The only differences are:
- In step #2, "cd /usr/steam/sourcebase/orangebox" instead of "cd /usr/steam/sourcebase/css"
- In step #4, "-game tf" instead of "-game cstrike"
If you're just starting out, it might be easier for you to run a server on Windows than on Linux, as you will likely be much more familiar with the OS interface.
As Pain indicated, you can also go with a managed configuration, and we'll handle the game setup and updates for you.

Re: Help for my Virtual Server
Heh, thanks for the help there! I was going in the entire wrong direction. However, unfortunately, I have run into another problem with this installation. While connecting to the VNC server address in my control panel, it is asking me who I should log in as, and I simply use Administrator. Then, it asks me for a password, but it does not allow me to type in a password, and I am simply stuck there. I should be running this from my personal computer correct, and not off the Remote Control Panel? (However I get the same problem on both.)
Re: Help for my Virtual Server
While you can use the VNC tool, we strongly recommend that you start with Remote Desktop, instead, as it's better in most ways. The "Server control" page describes how to do this.

Re: Help for my Virtual Server
Oh, no, sorry, I should have phrased that better. I know how to log onto the Remote Desktop, that's not the problem that I am currently facing. Whenever I run Putty, and put in the VNC server address, it asks me who I want to log in as. I just type Administrator, and then it asks me for a password. When I get here, it does not let me type anything in, and I am stuck at this point.
Re: Help for my Virtual Server
You mentioned PuTTY, which is not a VNC client. Are you actually trying to log in through SSH? If so, you need to use the IP of your server, not the VNC IP. SSH also only applies to Linux servers, so your username should be "root" and not "Administrator".
We describe how to log in to your server on the "Server control" page. Please review that page, as all the information you need to connect is shown there.
