Server for a CS:S Zombie Escape

Post by ren3gade »

I am planning on opening up a 50-64 slot server on CS:GO or CS:S and making it a Zombie Escape. Zombie Escape supossably uses alot of resources and needs a lot to run. I was told a VPS wont do the job unless you get a really good and expensive VPS. Ive been told i need a dedi.
But problem is.. Dedis are EXPENSIVE. (to me atleast)

So my question is..

What do i need to run a Zombie Escape server with the giant maps and everything going on? I want no lag, and just smooth gameplay for all.

I currently have the $30 a month VPD from NFO, and it can run all of the mods for it and the maps fine.. but thats only with 2 players. What if there is 40+ players?

And i am on a budget, so please don't try and tell me i need something more costly than i really do.

Thanks,

Hi,

A VDS would probably work for what you want to do but it would need to be enough for that server. I haven't seen resources for one of those servers but I have no doubt it is a lot higher then a normal CSS server.

Your best bet would be to go with a managed game server here instead of a VDS. You would then loose the overhead that is introduced when in a virtual environment. On top of this there are usually more machines to pick from on a managed server and that allows us to help you and put you on a faster machine if needed.

Okay thanks. I would much rather do a VPD or Dedi though. i like having access to change the server any way i want when i want wether it be slots or whatever. Its much more accessable and i like it better. And at the same time i dont want to be spending $70.00 for 1 64slot GameServer, where i cant add any other thing to. On a VPD/dedi i can add what i want.

Thanks. If anyone else has any suggestions or knows some more helpful info i could use, leme know. :)

What exactly are you trying to do that wouldn't be allowed on a regular shared server here?

Well i like being able to change the slots at any time of no extra cost to be honest. Thats the main thing. Also, being able to open up more than 1 server on a VDS at a time is nice just incase i do.

My 32 slot CSGO server constantly goes up to 680+ megs of RAM. Beta at least is a huge resource hog. I have my FireDaemon set to restart the server every day, just to keep the game running fresh and memory usage down.

CSGO includes a command that will auto-restart the server if it reaches a certain threshold, if it becomes a problem you may want to try using that just as a backup in case it does suddenly use a lot.
