Very slow FTP speeds

Post by Peep »

Using Filezilla server on Windows 2008 R2, and no speed limit. If you try to download our modded Minecraft client at ftp://216.52.143.235 you should notice speeds of 300kbs - 1mbps at most. I'm almost certain that if put this download on http it would go much faster than that, but we don't have Apache installed and would prefer using anonymous FTP.

The server is able to download through http just fine, and speedtest.net reports a normal connection speed: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2058889680.png

We also tried making a torrent for the file but the speeds were even worse than FTP, that could be because of my limited knowledge of seeding, though. Getting the FTP download to not be so slow would be preferable.

Hi,

Have you tried playing around with you "Internal transfer buffer size" and "socket buffer size" within FileZilla server?

Check under the "Miscellaneous" tab.

@Kraze^NFo> Out of context!

@Juski> You said I had a valid point! You can't take it back now! It's out there!

I played around with this setting a bit, and for me it seemed to change the speeds slightly but nothing major. Other users report no major difference in speed either. There seems to be no recommended values anywhere on the internet, so I'm not sure what it should really be set to.
