New VDS COD2 issues

Post by axRhino »

We are in the 2 day test phase of a new VDS with NFO and I am having a few issues:

First the COD2 server will not come/stay online:
This server does not appear to be online. It could be changing maps or it could be completely down.

Second I see no ability to install the Extreme mod through the control panel so I assume I must do it via ftp then change the startup command line. Correct? I have all my maps and mod files ready to go.

Third, how do I turn on punkbuster for the cod2 server?

The virtual server is AnarchicX

Is the server not running from the very beginning (in its stock state)? If so, and this is a managed server, please contact us directly through the help system so that we can take a closer look there.

Yes, you'd need to upload the mod files through the FTP, and then tell the system to run your md through the "Server control" page. However, you should not do this until the server works stock.

PB should be on by default.

Server is running stock just fine but will not start with the mod installed.

If I understand correctly I should be able to choose the mod folder in "Server control" tab then restart it.

Is there some place I can see the log so I can tell what is hanging it up?

The most common mistake in relation to this would be not defining a starting map in the mod's server.cfg, so I'd recommend checking that first.

A log should be created in the mod's folder, if it's starting right.

This topic seems to contain the same problem I am having but I am not sure I understand the solution.

Should I just delete the players folder or add one that is similar to the one in the default install of the game running on the server?
Edge100x wrote:For reference, this problem occurred because the customer's uploaded files for the mod included a "players" folder (which is normally auto-generated by the CoD2 server), which in turn contained an "active.txt" that set the profile to "tcadmin", as opposed to the standard value of "default". When it starts up, the CoD2 server loads the config_mp.txt file saved to the active profile folder while checking for hardware changes, throwing up a dialog box if it finds differences. Our system is set up to delete "players/default/config_mp.cfg" during its repair operations in order to ensure that this check can't fail, but it does not look for "players/tcadmin/config_mp.cfg", so the dialog box was appearing every time the server tried to start, preventing it from running.

The fix was to change the "players/active.txt" file to contain "default" instead of "tcadmin". The server then started normally.

This was an artifact of transplanting an entire mod's folder and files from an existing server on another machine with a custom profile defined. We've never seen this before because most customers upload their mods from standard distributions.

Good catch. If that applies to you (because you transplanted a mod folder from another server instead of uploading the mod fresh), you could probably either delete the players folder or edit the file as described in that post.

Yes. The player folder was part of the problem.

The other part was the startup line needed "+map_rotate" added to it.

To have a redirect server do I need to add web hosting to my plan?

This would seem to indicate so:
To provide fast in-game downloads by automatically syncing your server's files to a webspace you control, please set up a webspace with us, then go into the Domains page of that webspace and add either a free provided subdomain or a 3rd party domain you have purchased. As long as that domain points to a valid folder on the webserver afterwards (which it will by default), you'll be able to then use an automatic sync tool here to set up web-based downloading for the game server.

This is what I was talking about before. I recommend putting it in the server.cfg instead of the command-line (as that's what we do here).

Yes, you would need to do this for the auto-sync to work. You could also use 3rd party hosting, if you'd prefer.

Is there an easy way for me to add this to our plan?

Yes, you can add it through an order modification via this page: https://www.nfoservers.com/order-virtua ... server.php. Select the specifications you have now, choose the webhosting add-on option, click "This is a change order" at the bottom of the page, and submit. It will present you with a summary/review screen after this.
