Hello,
I currently have 2 unmanaged Windows 2008 R2 VDS'. How do I go about installing the following games:
-Call of Duty: World at War
-BFBC2
-Battlefield 3
-Team Fortress 2
-Minecraft (I will probably need more resources for this, I think)
Thanks in advance,
Wally

BFBC2 and Battlefield 3 you have to be a GSP. Pretty much a nogo for those two.
Team Fortress 2 use the hldsupatetool that Steam provides. Steam has a guide to help you with the tool. srcds.com also has some nice guides.
Call of Duty World at War own a retail copy of the game
install it on your pc and upload the necessary files to your vds. here is a link http://guides.tntblowout.com/codww/index.html
Minecraft I'm not sure about. http://segmentnext.com/2010/10/17/minec ... ver-guide/ looks like you may need to install java to run that game.

Wasn't BFBC2 none ranked available for anyone?
Thought they eventually made things available.

Re: Installing other games onto my unmanaged VDS
Minecraft is mainly memory based, I have a minecraft server on a 2.5Ghz dual quad core machine, and with <10 players it takes almost no CPU, but a ton of memory(2.85GB right now). It is my understanding that minecraft allocates memory whether its using it or not. If you just want to run a small 10 player server for friends, you could get away by allowing it 1GB of memory.
Remember, it is recommended that you keep 300+MB free for the OS, although I would recommend keeping over a GB free at all times, in-case something wants to suck up more memory (had minecraft limited to 8GB once and it ended up taking 10.2GB)

@Target, thanks for the link. Was able to install the server with the link you provided. I also needed to install direcX on the VDS for it to work properly.
@soja, I thought it would be a resource piggy. I have a single-core VDS unmanaged that doesn't get used much and thinking of installing Minecraft on it. Do I need to get a license for Minecraft or are there Windows server files somewhere in the interwebs?
Keep in mind, I would search for these files, just trying to see if someone in these forums has installed them on an unmanaged VDS, somehow.

I would much prefer having a ranked BFBC2 server, but if I really can't, then where can I get these server files?.=QUACK=.Major.Pain wrote:Wasn't BFBC2 none ranked available for anyone?

Minecraft servers are free to run.
You need java installed to run it, the normal jre is fine.
There are probably multiple guides out there for a dedi server. I don't run one, a friend of mine uses my machine for it.
Also, bfbc2 ranked can only be run by a gsp, players aren't allowed access to the server files.

BF:BC2 is RSP-only, for both its ranked and unranked versions.
