VDS Network port

Post by J-man »

Does each VDS on a XEN Server get its own gigabit port into your switch? Or do all the VDS's on a system share a gigabit port?

Each VDS gets it's own virtual Xen adapter but the machine only has a single physical adapter so you technically are limited to 1GBps per machine.

Thanks. Is there a max number of VDS's you put on each system? Say if a system had only single core linux VDS's on it there could be anywhere from 24 to 48 or so VDS's sharing a single physical port.

Technically there is a maximum since we only sell VDS servers here resources are dedicated, so it's impossible for us to oversell.

Cool, thanks. One last question, how many cores do the systems have? Each single core VDS gets half of a cpu core, correct?

No, each VDS is sold based on HT cores, to simplify it you can think of it that way but we have a good explanation of it here;
