If a get a full machine and want to host VPS's of my own is that fine? Also would the ddos protection or rules you guys have affect the VPS's as well?

You could do that if you wanted to, yes.

The rules applied at a router level would effect everyone. Dedicated machines do not come with a firewall tab.
