My VDS Dosn't out connection, "name lookup timed out"

Post by KillerV »

Helo,

I have problems with my VDS Can´t connect with the internet. I can acces to the gamecp panel installed, but the panel say "name lookup timed out" all panel works fine but its imposible resolve the connection with internet.

I access to the VDS an It's impossible connect to internet and it's strange the terminal can't open to.

When I look help for this problem I found problems with DNS and things like that, But
- I can access with VNC (with ssh it's impossible),
- The gamepanel on http works fine
- The ftp service works fine
- Iptables off (always works very well with iptables ON and apf)
- Not rules in firewall (always works very with with rules)
- The file network have the correct ip's and names
- Restart the services http, ftp, mysql, iptables, apf, etc...
- Reboot the VDS 4-5 times (start very slow)

The VDS accept traffic but can't connect to request something

Any idea???

Please double-check that your DNS servers are set to 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 and not 128.95.120.1 / 128.95.112.1. We used the latter ones previously, as they are public DNS servers provided by the University of Washington, but we switched to using Google some time ago; now, the UW servers are no longer working correctly.

It was probably just a friendly tech, rather than the ISP themselves. I don't understand why some places bother running such poor implementations of things if they can't do them right.

I check the DNS and have the correct DNS

IP Netmask Gateway Custom reverse DNS
74.91.121.29 255.255.255.0 74.91.121.254
74.91.127.210 255.255.255.0 74.91.127.254
74.91.127.245 255.255.255.0 74.91.127.254

Primary name server: 8.8.8.8
Secondary name server: 8.8.4.4

I think in error of the connection but with the support of NFO say it's better you post your problem because all thing's look's good.

I've redirecction from my domain to this VDS and is possible connect and access to the panel. The real problem is The VDS can't make out communication.

I don't know why but the terminal of SO don't work when I try open that say about an error to open child process.

If you make a ping or tracert to the VDS 74.91.127.245 response perfectly.

Thank's for your reply's brother's

What is the request that you are making from the VDS that is failing?

This makes it sound like the host it is trying to connect to may be down or blocking your connection. What hostname/IP is it trying to connect to?

I just realized that you were only quoting our "IP list" page above, when I asked you if the DNS servers were set correctly.

Did you go into the network adapter inside your OS and check them there?

Yes I check that and have this:

NETWORKING=yes
NETWORKING IPV6=no
HOSTNAME=panel.tsmservers.com
GATEWAY=74.91.121.254

Always works fine with this configuration

The name servers are not listed in the file that you quoted. If this is a Linux-based system, try looking at /etc/resolv.conf, as it will recap the DNS servers that are currently in use.

I understand that it worked properly before. That is a statement that we hear frequently from customers when we are helping them to troubleshoot problems. Unfortunately, even if you don't change, the world around you does, and that can cause breakages. In this case, the 3rd-party DNS provider has stopped working correctly, which means that you need to switch to a new one.

After your DNS settings are adjusted may also be a good time to check for OS updates. Security fixes are a particularly important area to keep up with, because hackers are constantly finding new ways to compromise software -- inaction there can very easily result in broken systems.

Thank You Edge100x You're the best bro xD. Excelent words in your reply.

Now I resolve the DNS, the connection work. But the terminal can't open and still blocking putty. Not problems with firewall I'm very sure of that.

Did you reboot after adjusting the resolv.conf file? It is possible that some service was not starting because it couldn't make a connection.

If that's not it, check to make sure that nothing disabled the sshd service in general.

Yes I reboot and the DNS works perfectly but the problem now it's with the terminal, the SO say: There was an error creating the child process for this terminal

In the system monitor have start but sleeping this service: ssh-agent and sshd
