About E3-1270 w/32 GB + SSD

Post by Minecraft2207 »

I saw that you announced that price dropped by 30$ but it was costing 259-269$ and now it's costing 239$ There's no 30$ discount. (it never was 279$) I checked it every month ago, since im very interesting on it.

Also i want to know if there's a chance to decrease the Ram in order to decrease the price since i believe that 16 GB is enought for any gameserver (32 GB is too much)

Is there a possible to install Windows Server 2003 32 bits With SP1 on it? Is it avialable on NYC?

If I remember correctly $269 was the old price. $269.99 - $30 = $239(the current price)

Removing ram is not something we currently support doing. Since we must repurpose these machines after a custom cancel.

In some cases we can install an OS of your choice but what we listed is what is needed under most circumstances. On top of that we don't recommend 32 bit OS's.

It's because my application is an old one and performs best on a Windows Server 2003 x32 Bits SP1. Or you believe that it will develop better on a new system like WS2k8x64?

There's no way to make an excepction if i buy for 3 months in a row? I will continue with it after that ofc, only because my budget dont allow me to go for more than that in one time. Hope you can understand. That will be a big help since 32 GB is too much and i feel that im not using everything what i paid for.

Thanks

I wouldn't expect it to be an issue. Wink2k8 should do just fine, you could also do wink2k3 64 bit if you wish.

We tend not to do this as three month payments for dedicated servers ends up being a large chunk of money and requires extra verification and security steps.

Is it the SSD you are going for or the slightly faster processor that the v2 has?

If you can apply a discount for 16 GB Ram instead 32 GB Ram i will go 3 months in a row for sure. As you can see i being here asking about dedicated since january/february i guess.

It's about the SSD, and 1270 doesn't have a faster processor than v2.

As I mentioned above we can't do custom configurations like that since we need to be able to reuse the machines down the road. On top of the the cost differences between the ram would be very minimal.

You are also correct, I misread the processor name. The 1270 is not faster than the v2.

Ok, understood everything, it only let me with the decision if choose what my GameServer developer told me (W2003x32bitsWSP1) or go for your recommend (WS2008x64bits)

Is it possible that i provide you a sample of the serverfiles and you test where it develop better? (I only hope that the way that my GameServers work with a high quantity of people do not change it)

Have you considered a VDS instead of a dedicated machine? That will allow you to test your OS in different environments and see what works best for you.

NFo VDS are actually a very good alternative!

Actually it works in both OS, i just want to know why my developer prefer to run it into a WS2k3 instead a WS2k8. I asked him and he only told me that he tested the gameserver in WS2k3 meaning that he cannot give me an answer about WS2k8.

What can change between WS2k3 32 bits and WS2k8 64 bits that could finish in a conflict or something with my gameservers?

In some cases, the setup fee also subsidizes a server package, allowing us to bring down the monthly price. This helps customers who plan to keep their server for at least a couple of months by making it less expensive in the long run, and it allows us to help pay some of the up-front costs associated with building the machine.
How do i can apply to it? and how much does the monthly price reduce? :·3

If your service does not require even 16 GB of RAM, and especially if you're not sure about the OS it needs, I really would recommend a VDS. The performance is similar to a full machine in many cases, and the VDS comes in at a much lower price point, with more options and the flexibility to move between locations, reinstall the OS, or reconfigure in other ways at any time.

If you absolutely require a dedicated server, the E3-1270 16 GB w/SSD is a model that we offered some time ago. If you open a support request, I can check to see if we have any of these old models that I can repurpose. We do not support Windows 2003 x86 except on VDSes, though, so you'd have to go with a 64-bit OS for the full machine.
